Leeds United made, as many expected they would, a strong statement on their return to the Premier League, even if they did lost in the end to Liverpool on Saturday. They look as if they will make waves in this season’s Premier League. Not least their maverick coach Marcelo Bielsa. He is not known as ‘El Loco’ for nothing, highly respected for his tactical outlook but also feared for his maverick approach.Leeds will be heavily favoured tonight against Hull City in the League Cup but it is not sure whether Bielsa will follow the example of many other Premier League managers and give an opportunity, in this second round tie, to fringe players. If he does, then there is also the possibility of an upset, even though Hull are still coming to terms with relegation from the Championship. The same uncertainty awaits Fulham, who go to another League One outfit Ipswich Town in their second round tie. Fulham got a rude awakening on their Premier League return when Arsenal hammered them at home on Saturday. Fulham are set for a tough season. This pool also features another catch up game for Paris St Germain, who have dominated France Football for so long but made the most bizarre start to the new campaign. They started behind the other clubs because they were given time to rest after reaching the Champions League final. But they lost to newly promoted Racing Lens in their opener and then were beaten in a tempestuous game on Sunday at home by arch rivals Olympique Marseille.Several players, including Neymar, are suspended tonight as they host Metz in a match that is usually a routine assignment but might turn out to be a lot tougher.
